Online Perception VS. Face to Face Perception
I am writing about perception to argue that we perceive emotions and true feelings differenly in an online conversation rather than we do in a face to face encounter because we lack the facial expressions, tone of voice, and body language in an online conversation than we are given in a face to face discussion. First, You need to understand the meaning of the word "perception." Http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/perception gives the defintion of perception as " The act of faculty of apprehending by means of the senses or of the mind; cogntion; understanding."
Many children and teenagers today will tell you that they would rather chat with their buddies online rather than sit next to them and chill out. While I agree, Internet exposer has a great deal of good qualities,I believe chatting online down grades a person's English and typing skills. This is mostly true for younger children who don't yet have a steady knowledge of English Comprehesion.
When engolfing yourself in online discussions, you don't see a person's true reactions to what you are saying. I believe because of how things are perceived by others online, It causes a great deal of drama that could have been easily avoided of the people in the conversation had had the tools that we perceive with today. Emotion, tone of voice, and body language are vital characteristics that we use when we need to understand the meanings of our conversations.
The point I would liek to make with this blog is while most of us enjoy talking online, we are more likely to perceive the true meaning of statements inaccurately then we would talking in person.
